Each of us deserves a second chance.
Adopting a rescue horse or Mustang is one of the best things you can do.
When you adopt, you’re not just giving a deserving horse a home. You’re also demonstrating that a love for the horse is about so much more than putting profit before animal welfare: that each of us is an individual,
with the potential to do incredible things.
Meet Our Horses, Past and Present
-
Cora
Cora is a beautiful, ten-year-old Arabian mare who Second Chance Ranch purchased from a kill-pen in TX, thanks to the generous donations from our village of rescue warriors. Cora was emaciated and covered in wounds when we first brought her to our facility. She has gained around 100 pounds at this point, and her battle wounds have healed. Cora is incredibly sweet and doesn’t have a mean bone in her body, but was very fearful of humans when she first arrived. We are slowly but surely working on her confidence and trust, and she is making enormous improvement. Once Cora is 100% healthy and started under saddle, she will be available for adoption to the perfect home only.
-
Wynston
Wynston is a stunning five-year-old Arabian gelding. Wynston was part of a large herd-dump at a kill-pen in TX, where Second Chance Ranch also found Cora. Wynston is shockingly calm and trusting, despite everything he has gone through in his young life. He has handled every new thing we’ve presented to him like a seasoned champion — from farrier work to trailer loading, from standing wraps to taking walks around the neighborhood. We are waiting for Wynston to gain weight and reach perfect health before starting him under saddle and preparing him for adoption.

Bodhi
Wickedly smart, eccentric, and a bit dramatic, Bodhi is the theatre kid of our herd. Bo is a Mustang off the Virginia Range in Nevada. We adopted Bodhi in 2018 along with his brother Little Chief. As Bo and Chief spent the first 5-6 years of their life in the wild, both required lots of time and understanding through their transition into domestic life. Bodhi now excels in the jumper divisions at hunter/jumper shows and will likely be making his debut in the .90-meter classes this summer! Bodhi is also an amazing mountain horse and loves going on long trail-rides and pack trips.
-
Vincent
Vincent is by far the goofiest, sweetest member of our herd — he’s pretty certain that he is just a big dog. Vince’s favorite activities are spa days, cuddling in the sunshine, and eating. He is always the first horse at the gate and never turns down a hug. Vincent is a Mustang from the Triple B HMA in Nevada. We adopted him in 2022 as a 2-year-old. As he is just a big, butt-high baby, we are giving him more time to grow before starting him under saddle next year. We are very excited to see what he decides to be when he grows up!

Little Chief
Chief got his name for a reason — he is the boss. Little Chief was born on the Virginia Range in Nevada. Still wild at heart, Little Chief is incredibly smart and often tries to outsmart his people. Once he knows that you are his human, he will give you 110%. We adopted Chief in 2018 along with his brother, Bodhi. Chief eventually proved to be an amazing endurance horse, excelling at 50-mile rides with energy to spare! He has so much heart and is worth every second of time we have spent earning his trust and respect. After 5 years with us, Chief was ready to continue his career in endurance with an amazing human who loves him as much as we do. He now lives in Maryland where he is turned out with a herd of geldings on beautiful pastureland.

Margaret
Margaret is a stunning, intelligent, athletic Arabian mare who was sent to Second Chance Ranch for behavioral rehabilitation and rehoming by some wonderful horse-people who had rescued her from a horrific situation. Sadly, she had been treated very poorly by her former owners and lost trust in humans. We spent two months teaching Margaret to form new associations with humans and then started her under saddle. After successfully completing her first 25-mile endurance ride, Margaret went home with the most perfect new mama. Her name is now ‘Pearl’, and we can’t wait to see them both at endurance rides in 2024.

Lady
Lady, aka Ladybug, has one of the most incredible success stories. We found out about her from a kill pen’s Facebook page, and knew that we had to rescue this beautiful Mustang. We picked her up on the same day that her truck was supposed to ship to Mexico. She was very scared and underweight when we first began working with her, but within 6 months she became one of the sweetest and safest Mustangs we’ve ever known — her new human is a 10-year-old boy, who she loves. She currently lives with her wonderful new family in Moab, UT.
